A couple of great covers

http://drownedinsound.com/images/42749.jpeg

Mechanical Bride
Umbrella (Rihanna cover)

There's one thing I hate and that's people doing ironic covers of other peoples' work. I lost respect for Ben Gibbard when he did it solo and I don't think I've listened to manic street preachers since I saw them do this live.

Mechanical Bride however do this song and the writers justice with the evocative and hauting melodies of Lauren Doss on a piano laden reimagining of a classic piece of modern popular music.

Melissa Laveaux
Needle in the Hay (Elliott Smith cover)

Melissa Laveaux delivers an original performance that stays true to the iso
lation and insecurity of the original but without relying upon it. It's soulful and, as covers should; feels like it means something to the artist.

Couple of pop albums

Truth is i've felt alright this weekend and unfortunately that tends to mean i'm not as inspired to be creative, go figure. So there you go, sorry for n0t updating yesterday, t'was the first time in a hell of a long time though eh. It's cold, i'm still having to get up early and I have no money so i'm sure I won't stay content for long ha :D

One thing that has frustrated me of late is that all the artists I like are really popular, not cos i'm leet or anything but because their gigs sell out sooooo quickly. Modest mouse, frank turner and well... paul mccartney. I guess the latter one I should have expected. But none the less scarlet mist isn't the tool I thought it once was.

I'm not going to do a proper post i'm just going to post a couple of albums that leaked last night-

Controversial Decision

Recently while writing notes for my blog I mused over doing a post about pop music that's on my ipod because believe it or not, there is some. I dig some pop music but I confess that I can't really tell whether rihanna's music is actually good or whether I just like it because she's mind-blowingly hot.

Fact of the matter is, pre 2003 when I started to listen to good music I listened to alot of mainstream stuff, I was into rap and therefore have N*sync's track they did with nelly on there, I have justin timberlake's justified which I even recorded onto cassette at the time oh god... Yeah time's change but I don't think my radar would be quite so refined if I hadn't gone through that stage.

Bottom line is, I'm syncing my ipod later on and this rihanna track is going on there as well as robbie williams' new album. I haven't heard either but that's why pop music is so successful because you don't have to, you just get told what to think by everyone else.
