Controversial Decision

Recently while writing notes for my blog I mused over doing a post about pop music that's on my ipod because believe it or not, there is some. I dig some pop music but I confess that I can't really tell whether rihanna's music is actually good or whether I just like it because she's mind-blowingly hot.

Fact of the matter is, pre 2003 when I started to listen to good music I listened to alot of mainstream stuff, I was into rap and therefore have N*sync's track they did with nelly on there, I have justin timberlake's justified which I even recorded onto cassette at the time oh god... Yeah time's change but I don't think my radar would be quite so refined if I hadn't gone through that stage.

Bottom line is, I'm syncing my ipod later on and this rihanna track is going on there as well as robbie williams' new album. I haven't heard either but that's why pop music is so successful because you don't have to, you just get told what to think by everyone else.

I've not gotten into these vampire things at all like everyone else but nor did i harry potter. Like I'd LOVE to but there's something that doesn't click with me like I like books and movies to be feasable and have some sort of scientific reasoning behind it if there is a supernatural element.

Like Harry potter, he's a wizard because he learned it at school and his dad had sex with a witch or something right? Well neither of those things exist like documented druids which are essentially what wizards are are so called because of their creativity at harnessing the healing power of the world around them it's not like a god given gift. Now if they'd said harry potter just learned it at school then i could've dug that but they went too far.

Now vampires, if there was documentation of people being bitten by bats or wolves and developing a taste for blood i would be ALL OVER that unforunately this isn't the case...

I'm from oxford and yet I give thom yorke a hard time. I dig this track, check it out babies.

The Pixies

As part of the bands you should know series, this quartet from Boston have influenced any number of artists from the libertines to modest mouse to Nirvana and are indeed, the guy who plays Harry Potter's, favourite band.














The Pixies (1986–1993, 2004–present)

Covering areas from UFO's to mental instability to violent biblical imagery, Black Francis is the main man behind the Pixies' abstract lyrical themes that they have become reknowned for, more so in Europe than the States where they remain a band only the cool people really know.

Surfer Rosa and Doolittle are considered their masterpieces and spawmed most of their most famous songs that i've linked to at the bottom of this post and at the very least you should have both of those albums on your ipod. Oh and if you want the entire discography, as always just click on the name above. He shares vocal duties at times with Kim Deal who I think's been crucial to their success giving them another dimension.

Alot of bands are famous on the back of viral videos, I mean Ok Go? Sure the album was fine enough but without those two videos? I think they'd be about as popular as Hard-Fi. Pixies aren't famous on the back of it but they do have on, a video for "hey!", it's got about 26million views on this link alone.

They've split and reformed a few times and are releasing a best of box set in "minotaur" which is due to be released on June 15th. No plans for a new album.
